Even though it can be difficult or confusing for some, link building isn’t some SEO hack that’s out of reach for most people.  Link building is pretty straight forward.  All you have to do is find some sites that are relevant, ones that might have a reason to link from and convince them to link.

Why would another site want to link to yours?  There are several reasons – a relationship already exists, you’re a valuable resource for their audience, or because you’re involved in the same community events that they are.  These aren’t the only reason, but the ones mentioned are a start.

Link represent a relationship, as well as a connection online.  If you wish to build links and not created content, you will want to look for opportunities created by existing relationships and connections.

The important thing to remember when trying to earn links is to provide value.  You’ll never be able to secure meaningful links without link value for the other site – value for them, their website, and the audience.

Content creation is a way that you can provide value and secure links, but there are a number of ways that you can leverage the value of your company offers to secure links.

What are some opportunities that probably already exist for your business that can be used to build links without content?   has written a post on Search Engine Land where he notes that there are plenty of ways to build links, even if you don’t have the resources to create links.  In his post, he brings up 5 opportunities that could help you build links without content:

  1. Mentions
  2. Directories
  3. Partnerships
  4. Community involvement
  5. Testimonials and reviews
