Have you been noticing a drop in your index count within the sitemap reports in the Google Search Console? If so, you’re not alone. It’s been confirmed by Google on Twitter that there could be a sitemap index count reporting bug found within the Google Search Console.
Gary Illyes from Google said on Twitter,
“We might have a problem with reporting the number of indexed URLs in the SC Sitemaps feature. Good news: we’re looking into it.”

Barry Schwartz took the time to check the webmaster forums, and didn’t see too many people talking about the issue of index count drops. For Barry, there was one webmaster that he found that confirmed a drop in index count. As long as the issue gets resolved soon, there shouldn’t be any growing numbers or concern on the matter.
