google-logoIt’s about time!  Google’s home services ads are going to finally begin showing on mobile.  The ads for local service provides, like plumbers, handymen, locksmiths, and more recently, HVAC services and electricians, had been been briefly spotted last month on mobile.  It looks like they are now to be prevalent across the California markets in which the program is currentlyactive.

This mobile ad format is featuring a swipeable carousel of listings that feature a mop of the area being serviced and in which the advertiser is operating.  The following images are from Android and iOS (left).

Since these businesses are usually coviering the entire metro area, the maps are identical in most of the ads.  There are exceptions though, as the the screenshot on the right below is somewhat conusing.  The same area is covered by both advertisers is a bit different, even if it’s just barely.  It isn’t celar on what the variations are without having to click through on both of them.

It seems as thogh Google appears to be testing the service area format on desktop too.  If you look below, you’ll see a comparisan of two formats that we are currently seeing today.  In the first format we see, it has been running for some time, and it includes thumbnail head shots of the service providers.  The result is for “San Diego plumber” displays the service area format.  The map shows the service area covered when you hover over each ad.

With the other update, there’s the inclusion of a “Google guaranteed” tag in each tag.  This was spotted by The SEM Post, the verification tells consumers, “This pro is backed by the Google guarantee, which means they’re licensed, insured, and pre-screened. Any job you book with them is guaranteed to be done right or your money back”.  If advertisers woud like to particiate in the Home Service Ads program, they will ahve to go through a background check and verification process.

It looks like the ads are set to take over the above-the-fold rreal estate on both mobile and eesktop results.  More than likely in most cases, the organic local pack appears below the Home Services Ads block and on eor two text ads.
