Have you ever been using Google and wished that the search engine would show emojis? Well now, you can stop dreaming, because Google is now showing emojis in full color in the desktop search results. At first, you may think, “why would Google even bother giving emojis the time of day in the search results?” Well, by including emoji characters in search results, it gives those web pages using those characters more visibility in search results.
It was Dan Barker who first spotted this and posted it on Twitter. Here is a screen capture of what it looks like on the desktop version of Google.
This feature has already been around since 2012 on mobile search, but it hasn’t ever appeared on desktop searches until recently.
If you believe that Google turn on the emoji feature on purpose, since it’s possible they did what Bing does and enabled searches to search by emoji. BUt it does not appear this is the case. Barry Schwartz tried searching to [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][buy ] on Google, but it didn’t come up with relevant results, like it did with Bing for [buy ].
Jennifer Slegg said, “I suspect spammers will have a field day using these emojis when it comes to decorating up their search results.”
