Google is Testing A New Lightweight Search App For Slow Internet Networks

In an Android Police report, a test is going on for a lightweight version of Google’s search app in Indonesia and possibly India, to see how they can speed up their search services in locations where internet speeds aren’t really the fastest.

With the interface, there are many of the same features as the main search app, but there they’ve been simplified for speed purposes.  It’s still possible t access features like search, news, images, top sites, weather, nearby, translate and switch to offline mode, personalize it and give Google feedback.  On the normal search app, all of this is put directly in the mains creen and loads it all for you right away.

“Just like the regular Google Search app, Search Lite can perform voice and text searches, but the search bar is more easily accessible on the bottom of the display and shows suggested keyword additions just on top of it when you perform a search,” Android Police said.

Check out the following Android Police screen shots:

The APK was found by the Android Police, so check it out if you’d like to try it out yourself.  This is an experimental release, so don’t be surprised if you find bugs.

There are always things that Google is trying to do to improve the online experience for slow connections, such as a lightweight mobile interface, streamlined versionlight mode and many more.
