This has been a big year in search.  The most popular searches made in 2016 on Google was Pokémon Go, which was followed by iPhone 7 and Donald Trump.  The top search term hit its peak in July when Pokémon Go first came out.

Due to Princes’s death on April 21, he was pushed into the top five most searched terms for the year.  “Powerball” was able to hit the top five after biggest lottery drawing in US history in January.

Google released nine global search trends lists — ranking everything from the top searches overall to the most searched people and global news stories.

Not surprisingly, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were the top two most ssearched people on Google during 2016.  Bernie Sanders came in at number 6.  Three other people that came in on top were three Olympic athletes – Michael Phelps, Simon Biles and Ryan Lochte.

The world’s most popular news story, according to Google’s search trend, was this year’s US election.
