An announcement was made on September 30th by Mariya Moeva, A Google Webmaster Trends Analyst, during SMX East that not only will there be an app ranking boost (which Google announced n February 26, 2015), but an additional ranking boost for those apps that utilize the new App Indexing API.
According to Mariya, when an app utilizes the new API, Google will be able t gather additional engagement data from that app, which will help determine how useful the app is to users.
So far, there hasn’t been any published news by Google in a blog post announcing this, but Mariya says that the reason for this is that things are changing quite fast. There where some other things that Google announced that revolve around app indexing at SMX East.
The first thing that the announced after the new App Indexing API was a brand new set of documentation around iOS app indexing. In case you’re curious about it, the documentation can be found here.
I guess we’ll see if there is anymore new iOS app indexing documentation from Google soon. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Secondly, there is something new with the Google Search Console. There are some new beta features that App Indexing developers now have access too, including:
- The ability to segment out Search Analytics data based on clicks on the search result links versus clicking on the install app button.
- The ability to fetch as Google not just using the APK version published on Google Play, but also by uploading an unpublished APK version directly through the fetch as Google feature.
- The fetch as Google results will now also show the complete API response including title, description, APIURL and more.
These three points were only some of the announcements made by Google around App Indexing.
