Yesterday, it was announced by Microsoft that a significant milestone was reached: Bing has become profitable. During the earnings call, Amy Hood, Microsoft’s CFO, said “In search, we expect Bing’s strong trajectory to continue, remaining profitable for the remainder of the year.”
comScore has found that Bing’s US market share is currently 20.7 percent. It was reported by Microsoft yesterday that “search advertising revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs grew 29 percent in constant currency with Bing US market share benefiting from Windows 10 usage.”
During the earnings call, Microsoft saw roughly $1 billion search ad revenue for the quarter, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. He also said that Windows 10 users have asked Cortana more than billion questions.
Windows 10 has been the most popular and well received version of the OS in the last several cycles. With this newest iteration of Windows, Bing has become deeply integrated into Windows 10.
