Commerce Is Coming: Facebook To Test Shopping Within Pages

Facebook-logoAll of the people who are even partially into the world of the internet knows what Facebook is.  Facebook is a social network that allows people to stay in contact with friends and family, as well as stay on the forefront of the news that they are interested in.  But people will now visit Facebook…to shop?  There is a BuzzFeed report that says that Facebook is building shops within Facebook Pages, which of course at this point is still in a test phase.

So what will you see with this new feature?  The Facebook Pages are going to feature micro e-commerce experiences with the entire shopping experience contained within the confines of Facebook.  The reports say that the shops will appear directly underneath the “about” section.  You can see an example of this in the mock-up (source: Search Engine Land):

buy button was introduced by Facebook last year, and having a larger commerce extension only seems natural to this.  Reports indicate that the traffic coming from Facebook is the most apt to make purchases when compared to other social sites.

Facebook product marketing manager, Emma Rodgers said:

“With the shop section on the page, we’re now providing businesses with the ability to showcase their products directly on the page.”

With as popular as Facebook is, it would be no surprise if a fleshed out commerce feature became both popular on the social network and a very powerful addition for both the company and advertisers.
