CouponYou typically put a lot of work into a website, putting up online, and fleshing it out with quality content, all with the goal of getting ranked higher and more people coming to your site.  But then you realize that there are other sites out there, sites that may even be directly competing with yours, that are ranking just as well as you and they don’t even have any real content to speak of on their site.  How are they doing it?  How are they doing so well in the search engine rankings if there’s hardly any content to be found?  Guess what?  They’re using coupons and promos to rise up the ranks of the search engines.

The problem with these type of tactics is that if feels a little cheap.  Brent Payne has some experience dealing with this sort of situation.  In a Search Engine Land post, he talks about research he did in a brand that used coupons and promo codes to get higher rankings instead of using actual quality content.  Brent goes deeper into this issue in his post, “Coupons, Coupon Codes, Promo Codes…When Content Is NOT King.”
