There are a number of us who have probably seen Google displaying the fun Emoji characters in their desktop search results over the last several months and years of displaying them in mobile. But, whether we loved them or hated them, Google finally made good on their promise to take them off of their search results.
The Emoji results where taken down from both the desktop and mobile search results listing page over the weekend.
The reasoning behind Google’s take down of Emojis is because large brands, such as Expedia, came up with clever ways to use Emojis in the search results with the aim of increasing the click-through rate from the organic search results to their web pages.
Google told the world that they were going to drop emojis back in the first week of May, but it didn’t even happen for several more weeks.
