It’s been confirmed by Google’s Gary Illyes on the morning of August 22 that the Google Search Console’s Index Status report is currently broken.
There are some that are noticing that the report hasn’t grown in number, as expected. The report usually shows webmasters how many pages Google has indexed on the site. There are those who compared the index status report flat growth to that of teh Sitemap report index count. If the numbers aren’t aligning and shift together, this could be a sign that one of the reports are wrong.
In this case, the index status report is off and broken.
When will the report get fixed? Right now, we don’t know. For the time being, you’ll have to rely on your Sitemap index report in the Google Search Console.
