Are you looking for image thumbnails in the main web search results page when you do food-related searches? It looks like Google is now allowing just this. Most searchers are seeing this now, as Google has tested one way another for months.
Even though it would seem it could be related to the new rich cards that is available to recipes and mobiles, it looks like this works on non-recipe websites as well that doesn’t have the structured markup.
