Mariya, who is working with the team on App Indexing, said that they’re looking into how to improve app discovery through App indexing in web search. This way, they can help searchers discover helpful content within apps that have yet to be installed.
With App Indexing, searchers who use Android devices can discover content within apps that are currently existing on their devices, assuming that the app has used Google’s App indexing protocol. Rather than taking a user to a web page, Google would display a link in the mobile search results, and then take them into the app at the content point that is relevant to them.
But here’s the question. What if the user doesn’t have the app that Google is trying to redirect the user to? The content will not be surfaced to the user. Mariya Moeva said that they’re looking for ways that they can change and improve app discovery as a whole in Google web search.
