Google confirmed to Search Engine Land that they’ve been experimenting with something new in the search results. Barry Schwartz happened to stumble upon results snippet in Goggle that showed “tags” within the snippet. The odd part is that the “tags” didn’t offer any additional functionality.
A list of “tags” that were relevant to the page content would be displayed in the actual search results listing snippets. These tags couldn’t be filtered, nor could they be clicked on or anything. These “tags” were simply listed without showing anything else.
I was unable to replicate the search result tags found in the above screenshot.
It was confirmed by Google that this was a real experiment, but wouldn’t go into any detail on what they are for and how they work.
