One area that Google can dangle over Amazon is Local retail. Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, Google has been giving local businesses more messaging options, including:

  1. Special store hours
  2. Pickup and delivery options
  3. More in Google My Business. 

Google has now enabled “Curbside pickup” badges for Local Inventory Ads.

The “Curbside pickup” features has been piloted for a while now with a small group of Local Inventory Ad “LIA” retailers since the end of April. The badges, which was announced Monday, will appear at the top of eligible ads on both mobile desktop results.

To enable “Curbside pickup” in your LIAs, you will have to meet the criteria for Store Pickup and offer same-day or next-day pickup from order time. You will have to reach out to your Google reps in order to join the beta. You can also fill out this form.

The feature is available where Local Inventory Ads launched:

Google also displays an “In Store” and “Shop Online” slider on mobile searches when determining that there might be local intent.
