Google To Penalize Sites Using Deceptive Mobile Traffic Networks

Google_logo_color_wideDo you remember when Google warned webmasters last month against using sneaky mobile redirects, either intentionally or unintentionally?

Last week, during a Google hangout, Google’s Search Quality Senior Strategist, Andrey Lipattsev mentioned in a Google hangout that his team is working specifically on detecting and taking action on mobile affiliate traffic networks that bounce users from one site to the next.  This ultimately hurts the user experience for the mobile user.

This was said at the 25:16 mark of the following video.

Andrey’s team is working with him to detect these “mobile affiliate traffic driving networks” where “users are just being bounced from one place to another.”   According to Andrey, Publishers will sometimes add these networks to their sites, completely on purpose, just so they can make some extra money.  Others do it unintentionally.
