Taking a cue from TikTok’s short form video platform, Instagram released a similar function called Reels on their own platform. Recently, Instagram released Reels to more regions.
As of August 12, a number of Instagram users from Germany said that they noticed a new layout in the app, where they saw a new Reels button on the bottom function bar. The Discover magnifying glass was moved to right by the Direct tab at the top.
This could help give Reels more of a focus to Instagram users.
With the uncertainty of TikTok itself here in the US, Reels could really use this time to make a big splash with this kind of short-form video feature if they do things right.
