Instagram, Pinterest Roll Out New Features For Pride Month

As June is Pride month, Pinterest and Instagram are coming out with a set of seasonal features that includes rainbow text, new stories filters, and more.

Here is what is coming to each platform:

INSTAGRAM FEATURES

Rainbow hastags

For the last three years, Instagram has been enhancing all pride-related hashtags with a rainbow gradient. This features applies to hashtags that is used in captions for in-stream posts, and even hashtag story stickers.

Examples of hashtags getting the rainbow gradient treatment includes #lgbtq, #bornperfect, #equalitymatters, #accelerateacceptance, or #pride2020.

Rainbow stories rings

For the second year in a row, rainbow rings for Instagram stories is making its return. Normally, story rings have a pink and orange gradient, but for June, stories will turn rainbow if there is a Pride-related hashtag included.

A new row of story stickers have been added by Instagram for Pride month. The following image from Search Engine Journal shows what they look like this year.

Pride filters

Finally, a brand new Pride-related feature has been introduced in the form of AR story filters. In total, there are 12 filters to choose from, with each color representing one of the flags in the LGBTQ+ spectrum.

A border with the Pride flags colors appears as a neon lighting effect around the photo or video when one of the filters is selected.

PINTEREST FEATURES

Pinterest is also in on Pride month with it’s own rainbow text features.

By searching for “Pride” on Pinterest, a list of suggested searches will appear in all the colors of the rainbow.

When users conduct Pride-related searches, Pinterest will show off a festive background below the search bar, as well as additional query recommendations. You can check it out by going directly to the search bar on Pinterest and typing “Pride” on iOS and Android.

Pinterest has shown what its users searched for in June, saying that there is a significant uptik in Pride-related searches during this time of year.

“… it’s not surprising that Pinterest is continually seeing a high volume of searches for milestone moments “transgender transition” (+70%) or “LGBTQ coming out stories” (+93%).

Pinners are also looking to create their best drag looks with a steady increase in searches for “drag makeup” (+77%) since the beginning of the year.

People are also finding inspiration to express themselves through quotes or art for “LGBT pride quotes” (searches are 8x greater)“Pride illustration” (+44%), Rainbow nail art (+55%) or “Bi pride tattoo” (+30%).

Future planning is also inherent of Pinterest, and searches for weddings prove that: searches for “lesbian proposal” are now 3x greater, while those for “lesbian wedding suit” are increased 96%.”
