One of the big changes we witnessed over the last year, due to the pandemic, was businesses either stalling or completely folding and going out of business.

But now that we’ve been through a lot of economic and health issues because of COVID, we might be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

According to Yelp’s Q1 2021 Yelp Economic Average (YEA) report, business reopenings are now at their highest levels since Q2 of 2020. New businesses opened up in the first quarter of 2021 than any other point over the last year.

Which local businesses are seeing the largest increases?

  • In Q1, restaurant and food business openings (18,217) were up by 5% from Q1 2020 and down by only 4% from Q1 2019.
  • Everywhere in the U.S. saw more than a 90% increase in consumer interest for real estate agents compared to the first quarter of 2020.
  • In preparation to move or declutter, consumer interest for junk removal services was up by more than 100% in every state.
  • Consumer interest was also up by more than 100% in nearly every state for architects, electricians and handymen.
