The founder of Moz, Rand Fishkin, has decided to step down from his operational roll at the company and moving into an advisory role Fishkin was the founder of Moz, which was originally called SEOmoz, with his mother Gillian Muessig 16 years ago.
The current CEO of Moz, Sarah Bird, announced the news on July 13, calling it a 6 to 9 month transition period as me moves into a Moz Associate role. Moz Associates is a part-time volunteer program where passionate marketers “contribute time and effort” within the Moz community.
Fishkin joined the search marketing community way back in 2002, and by 2004, became a well-known personality. When he first began with SEOmoz, it was as a blog to contribute to the SEO knowledge base, while at the same time offering SEO consulting services. Afterwards, SEOmoz primarly became an SEO software company. It was then rebranded as Moz, where it expanded its product lineup, and trimmed operations in 2016 to focus back on SEO tools.
Fishkin stepped down as CEO in 2014.
