Samsung Gets Stung By $539 Million Jury Verdict In Apple Patent Defeat

There has been quite a war between Apple and Samsung in regard to patents.  Recently, Apple has been awarded a massive jury verdict against the South Korean company.  The federal jury in the US granted Apple $538 million.

Back in 2012, Apple won a federal jury verdict of over $1 billion for various patent and design infringements by Samsung.  That was successfully appealed by Samsung, and ultimately, issues in the case went up to the US Supreme Court.

During this  round in federal court in San Jose, California, a retrial of damages, Apple sought $1 billion.  Samsung felt they should only pay out $28 million.  Liability (which was already in Apple’s favor), was determined on three design-relate patents.

In a Bloomberg report, the damages award is the largest for a patent case so far in 2018. The second largest, ironically, involves an Apple defeat in where it was ordered to pay $502 million to VirnetX in Texas two months ago.

More than likely, Samsung will appeal again.
