Google has chosen to enlarge the search box on their site by giving it more height. Both search boxes that you see on the Google.com home page and inside search results pages have been modified to be a little bit taller. Who will notice the change, who knows. More than likely, the average Google user may not even realize anything has changed, as the change is pretty subtle.
Not only has their been an increase in height in the search box, but the length of it is also less wide.

As I said before, more than likely, nobody well really even notice, so it begs the question, why did they decide to make such a small change in the search box?
