twitter_logo1-CopyTwitter is jumping into the e-commerce pool today by announcing a test of a Buy button that enables users to make purchases from within tweets on their iOS and Android devices.

A small percentage of US users are getting to try out the new Buy buttons in tweets, through a select group of Twitter e-commerce partners, Fancy,Gumroad, Musictoday and Stripe.

By tapping the Buy button, users will get additional product details, as well as being prompted to enter shipping and payment information.  After all this has been done, the information is sent to the merchant for delivery.  Don’t worry, the payment and shipping information that you enter is encrypted and stored by Twitter.  This way, you won’t need to put in the info over and over again if you make repeat purchases through Twitter.

The test group of brands, artists and nonprofit organizations include:

  • Eminem
  • Brad Paisley
  • Burberry
  • Demi Lovato
  • Nature Conservancy
  • Home Depot

“This is an early step in our building functionality into Twitter to make shopping from mobile devices convenient and easy, hopefully even fun,” Twitter product manager Tarun Jain wrote in a blog post.

“Users will get access to offers and merchandise they can’t get anywhere else and can act on them right in the Twitter apps for Android and iOS; sellers will gain a new way to turn the direct relationship they build with their followers into sales.”
