Looking at all the cool new, next-generation technology out there, such as AI, it all seems so futuristic and awesome. But when you get into discussions with people, it seems like it’s split down the middle. There are the boosters, such as developers and industry insiders, who see the social benefits of the technology, and then there are those who are half joking about a dystopian future in the form of Terminator or some other controlled world.
Can social and consumer benefits exist, even with all these new technologies leading to civil rights abuses and creeping authoritarian control?
Yes, virtual assistants and AI can have really cool benefits, but they can also be abused if ethical and legal restraints aren’t imposed simultaneously. While promotion of positive social outcomes of new technologies like AI are out there, there should also be discussion about the exploitation and abuse that can also take place.
