Keyword stuffing is something that’s been quite a talking point in the Google My Business world for a while now, and it probably won’t go away any time soon.
But what is keyword stuffing?
According to Google, keyword stuffing is “the practice of loading a webpage with keywords or numbers in an attempt to manipulate a site’s ranking in Google search results. Often these keywords appear in a list or group, or out of context (not as natural prose). Filling pages with keywords or numbers results in a negative user experience, and can harm your site’s ranking. Focus on creating useful, information-rich content that uses keywords appropriately and in context.”
When adding keywords to a business name in Google My Business, they impact ranking directly and dramatically. But despite how well keywords can impact rankings, you want to be careful when adding unnecessary descriptors that don’t match the business’s real-world name.
What kind of impact would adding the wrong keywords to your business name have? Colan Nielsen wrote a post over at Search Engine Land where he talks about the impact of keyword stuffing.
