With Tumblr’s New GIF Search Engine, Who Needs Words?

To make things easier and more interesting, Tumblr has decided to add a GIF search engine to assist users in quickly locating an image that accurately expresses what ever they’re trying to write.

According to Tumblr, after you select a GIF, it will be properly credited and the original GIF creator will be notified through their dashboard, phone, or whatever other platform they’ve set up to receive notifications from Tumblr.

In order to search for a GIF when writing a Tumblr post,

1. Click on the “+” icon to the left of the screen
2. Click the “GIF” button to find relevant images

There is a report on TechCrunch saying that Tumblr isn’t going to rely on a third-party.  Instead of a third-party, they will be indexing GIFSs that have been posted to the Tumblr platform.

According to Sarah Perez, a TechCrunch reporter,

“That means Tumblr users should be able to surface GIFs using less common keywords than on some other search services, including via unique Tumblr slang, sayings and other abbreviations that members of the various fandoms on Tumblr use.”
