Yelp is introducing new paid-promotion tools for business owners to give them more control over how they appear to users. These tools also count as non-advertising, revenue-generating products for the company. The intent of these products is mainly to help business owners, but they also bring more value and utility to consumers too.

This news comes just after the announcement made by Google that introduced new GMB promotional tools for business owners last week.

Yelp Verified License, one of Yelp’s first offerings, was introduced in March. Yelp manually checks whether or not companies are licensed in their respective categories, and if they are in good standing. Listings that have a verified license carry a prominent blue badge. This badge will appear on their profiles. This costs a dollar a day.

According to the company, businesses with the Verified License badge sees more engagement, including clicks, calls and map lookups. Verified License is currently available in selected categories and states. These states includes:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • New York
  • Texas
  • Washington

As shown above, the other two profile features that are being introduced are “Business Highlights” and “Portfolio.”

Business Highlights allows owners to choose from about 30 icons that describe or help promote their business. Two self-selected icons appear in Yelp search results. This is to help the business differentiate and enable newer businesses without many reviews to stand out and gain user consideration. Some of the options of icons includes:

  • Family owned
  • Results guaranteed
  • Years in business
  • Veteran owned
  • Free wifi
  • and others

Google My Business offers a number of similar “attributes,” though not as many as Yelp is now presenting.

Yet another product is Portfolio, which lets business owners showcase projects that they’ve done, such as landscape design or home remodeling. There’s even a quote and chat functionality connected with these pages. The project images allow for custom descriptions.

According to Yelp, the company believes this is going to help business owners more effectively promote their work, as well as better qualify customers by proving more content and information. Separately, Portfolio and Business Highlights $2 per day. But, there is a bundled pricing with multiple products. There is a forthcoming self-service profile customization flow with additional options, which you can check out in the following video.
