YouTube Gets Tests New Donate Feature

According to a report from the Verge, YouTube is testing a clap feature that lets fans donate to creators. This feature is officially called “viewer applause,” which allows people to purchase a clapping animation, which will appear over the video they want to support. This animation will only appear to the buyer when used. YouTube is leaning heavily into what works for Twitch’s streamer base. Donations are a big part of how Twitch streamers earn income.

WhatsApp Gets 2 billion users and Emphasizes Privacy Focus

WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, has officially gotten its user base up past 2 billion users. This milestone makes Whatsapp the second social media platfrom in the world to do so. There was no specification on how it calculated that number of users. The platform reiterated its privacy efforts, stating, “We will not compromise on security because that would make people less safe. For even more protection, we work with top security experts, employ industry-leading technology to stop misuse as well as provide controls and ways to report issues — without sacrificing privacy.”
