Instagram’s Chief: Following-Only Feed Won’t Be a Feature

Instagram’s chief, Adam Mosseri, has recently confirmed that a long-awaited feature, a following-only feed, won’t be implemented anytime soon. This decision is based on extensive testing and data analysis that revealed a significant drop in user engagement and satisfaction when this feature was enabled. Mosseri explained that while some users might prefer a feed that only shows content from accounts they follow, the overall impact on the platform is negative. When users have more control over their feeds, they tend to use the app less frequently, leading to a decline in likes, comments, and messages. This, in turn, affects the overall experience for all users on the platform. As per Mosseri: “Of course we’ve thought about it, and we’ve tested it and tried it a number of times. Every time we have, there’s a sub-group of people who are happy, there’s a bunch of people who forget that they’re in it, and then overall, everybody who’s in it uses Instagram less and less over time, and when we ask them questions like ”how satisfied are you with Instagram?”, they actually report being less happy with Instagram more and more over time, on average. And then there’s these second order effects where their friends start using Instagram less [and] because they use it less, they send less likes and comments, messages, and then there’s all of this other stuff, and it just gets worse and worse, and quickly.” As a result, Instagram is doubling down on its algorithmic feed, which recommends content based on users’ interests and behavior. Currently, 50% of the content users see is curated by Instagram’s AI, ensuring a more personalized and engaging experience. While this might not be everyone’s preference, it seems to be the most effective way to keep users coming back for more.

Bridging the Digital Divide: A Global Perspective on Internet Access

In today’s interconnected world, the internet has become an indispensable tool for communication, education, and economic development. However, despite its widespread benefits, a significant portion of the global population remains offline, creating a digital divide that exacerbates existing inequalities. While internet access is a given in many regions, it’s still a luxury for millions worldwide. For instance, only 42% of people in Southeast Asia and 34% in Africa have regular internet connectivity. This lack of access has far-reaching consequences, limiting educational opportunities, hindering economic growth, and perpetuating social disparities. To address this pressing issue, tech giants like Meta and innovative projects like Starlink are striving to connect the world. These initiatives aim to bridge the digital divide by expanding internet infrastructure and making affordable connectivity accessible to underserved communities. Beyond its humanitarian implications, universal internet access also presents significant business opportunities. For companies like Meta, connecting more people to the internet means expanding their potential customer base and driving growth. As we continue to witness the rapid evolution of the internet, it’s crucial to recognize the importance of equitable access. By working together to bridge the digital divide, we can create a more inclusive and prosperous world for all.

Reddit Expands Post Translation Option to More Languages

Reddit has taken a significant step towards making its platform more inclusive and accessible by expanding its AI-powered post translation feature. This feature, initially launched in France earlier this year, will now be available to Redditors in over 35 additional countries. Starting with Brazil and Spain, users will soon be able to translate posts directly from the post menu. In the coming weeks, Reddit plans to extend this functionality to Germany, Italy, the Philippines, and several Latin American countries. This new feature will work seamlessly across all devices, from mobile web to desktop apps. As explained by Reddit: “Earlier this year, we introduced a new machine translation feature to redditors in France, and to continue to bring Reddit to even more people around the world, today we’re starting to roll out machine translation to redditors in more than 35 additional countries.” The goal of this expansion is to enable Redditors to contribute to discussions in their preferred language while ensuring that their content is easily understood by the community. The platform will automatically translate posts into the native language of the subreddit, making it easier for users to engage with content from around the world. To provide additional context, Reddit will also indicate when a post has been translated and offer an option to view the original language. This allows users to get the full picture and understand the nuances of the original text. Reddit’s investment in AI-powered translation aligns with the broader trend of technology companies leveraging AI to improve accessibility and communication. Similar to YouTube and Meta, Reddit is using AI to break down language barriers and foster global connections. Beyond translation, Reddit is also exploring other AI-powered features, such as summarizing subreddit discussions and enhancing its advertising tools. By carefully considering the potential benefits and risks of AI, Reddit is taking a measured approach to integrating these technologies into its platform. As the platform continues to grow, it’s clear that Reddit is making the right moves to improve user experience and foster a more inclusive online community.

Google Search Console Performance Report Filters: A Sticky Situation

Google Search Console has recently introduced a highly anticipated feature that will streamline your SEO reporting process: sticky performance report filters. This means that the filters you apply to the Search performance report, Discover performance report, and News performance report will now persist across different tabs and even when you navigate between reports. Previously, filters would be reset each time you switched between reports or tabs. This could be time-consuming, especially if you frequently needed to apply the same filters. With the new sticky filters, you can save time and effort by setting your preferred filters once and having them automatically applied to subsequent reports. In addition to sticky filters, Google has also introduced a “reset filters” button. This button allows you to quickly clear any existing filters and start with a fresh slate. Another helpful enhancement is the automatic tab switching behavior. When you click on a row in a specific tab of the Search Console performance report, the report will automatically switch to the Queries tab. If you’re already in the Queries tab, the report will automatically switch to the Pages tab. This feature can help you quickly drill down into specific data points and analyze your performance in more detail.   Overall, the introduction of sticky performance report filters is a significant improvement for SEO professionals. By simplifying the filtering process and automating certain tasks, Google Search Console has made it easier to analyze your website’s performance and identify areas for optimization.

By offering something of value in exchange for an email address, you can effectively entice potential subscribers. Think about what your audience needs and create resources that address those needs. This could be an eBook, a checklist, a free trial, or a discount code. Whatever you offer, ensure it’s relevant and provides genuine value. Promote your lead magnets on your website and social media channels to maximize reach. For instance, a pop-up on a blog page can highlight the lead magnet to visitors, encouraging them to sign up. To maximize the impact of exclusive resources, clearly communicate their benefits on your website and social media platforms. Highlight what makes these resources unique and how they can solve a problem or improve the subscriber’s experience. Harness Social Media Platforms Boost Visibility with Social Media Leveraging social media platforms is a powerful strategy for boosting visibility and driving email list growth. Social media offers a wide reach, allowing you to connect with potential subscribers where they are most active. Start by integrating email sign-up forms directly into your social media profiles. Platforms like Facebook and Instagram offer tools to facilitate this. Create engaging content that encourages followers to subscribe to your email list. This can include posts that highlight the benefits of subscribing, such as exclusive offers or valuable insights. Start by creating compelling calls-to-action (CTAs) that motivate users to subscribe. These can be integrated into posts, stories, and even profile descriptions. Use eye-catching visuals and concise messaging to highlight the value of joining your email list. Another tactic is to utilize lead generation ads available on platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn. These ads allow users to sign up for your emails directly within the platform, streamlining the process and reducing barriers to entry. Engage followers through interactive content, such as polls or quizzes, that require an email submission to access results or insights. Collaborate with influencers relevant to your niche to widen your reach and credibility. By employing these email capture strategies, you can effectively grow your list and enhance subscriber engagement through social media channels. The Psychology Behind Buyer Signals Understanding the psychology behind buyer signals is essential for sales and marketing teams to effectively engage with potential customers. Buyer signals are often driven by a combination of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral factors. At the cognitive level, buyer signals reflect a prospect’s information gathering and decision-making processes. When a potential customer visits a company’s website multiple times or downloads a white paper, they are actively seeking information to assess if the product or service aligns with their needs. This indicates a level of interest and engagement. Emotionally, buyer signals can reveal a prospect’s feelings and attitudes towards a product or service. Positive body language, such as eye contact and nodding, can signal interest and approval. Conversely, negative cues like crossed arms or avoiding eye contact may suggest hesitation or disapproval. These emotional signals provide valuable insights into the prospect’s mindset and help sales teams tailor their approach accordingly. When a potential customer repeatedly visits a company’s website, downloads content, or engages with social media posts, it demonstrates a high level of interest and intent. These actions suggest that the prospect is actively researching and considering the product or service. Buyer signals related to specific product pages or features can be indicative of strong purchase intent. If a prospect spends a significant amount of time on pages detailing pricing, specifications, or testimonials, it suggests that they are seriously evaluating the product as a potential solution to their needs.
