Google News adds “Fact check” label for articles that contain fact-checking content

Google-logoFact checking is now officially part of Google now, as it’s getting its own Google News tag.  There is a Google journalism news blog post stating that Google News articles will include the ‘fact check’ label if the story includes the schema.org ClaimReview Markup, or is published by a site that follows “commonly excepted criteria” for fact checks.

“Today, we’re adding another new tag, “Fact check,” to help readers find fact checking in large news stories. You’ll see the tagged articles in the expanded story box on news.google.com and in the Google News and Weather iOS and Android apps, starting with the U.S. and the U.K.”

–Google Head of News, Richard Gingras

The fact check tag, similar to how the local source tag promotes major local new stories, is going to highlight articles that Google news has determined to contain fact checks.
