STILL DON’T HAVE A WEBSITE?
If you’re in business… no matter how big or how small. You must have a website. Here we are… 2018 – and for the life of me, I can’t figure out why this is still a question.
No matter what your excuse… a website will help your business in one way or another. And please don’t tell me you don’t need to be online because your business doesn’t have anything to do with the Internet (I hear this a lot).
20 years ago, it was important for any business to be in the phone book. But I can’t imagine a business owner telling a Yellow Pages rep “No thanks. My business doesn’t have anything to do with phone books”. Of course it doesn’t. A phone book is simply how people found you back then. Now they find you online. If for no other reason, that should be your base cause for having a website today.
Let’s cover some of a website’s most basic benefits:
- It’s the online version of your:
- Business cards
- TV commercial
- Billboard or sign
- Bio, background, etc.
- It’s like going to a networking event… but you don’t have to physically go. People can find you (ie. On Google) and learn about you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- It can be your office, or your store, without ever actually having to have a physical location.
- There is no cheaper, more effective way to do so many things:
- Advertise your services/products through content and imagery
- Brand your business through use of logo, colors, and messaging
- Showcase or teach through video, audio, webinars, podcasts, etc.
- Communicate with your clients or customers (via email, chat, web form, or Instant Message)
- Accept appointments, applications, etc. through forms and/or file uploads
- Point prospective clients/customers to service or products, simply by giving them a link to the related page on your website
- And just about anything else you can imagine…
If you’re a landscaper, what better way to show pictures of the work you’ve done and invite people to contact you for a bid.
If you sell homemade jewelry… or furniture… or brownies, what better way to show off your products, as well as a place to point when you’re showcasing your stuff on Pinterest or Facebook. Or maybe you have a booth at the Saturday Market – now you can hand out business cards with your website, where people can easily buy or order additional items.
If you’re a commercial general contractor, what better way to list the projects you’ve done or the companies you’ve worked with, as well as your contact information and possible license info. Things that your business customers will inevitably be looking for.
Tell me what your business is, and I guarantee I can tell you why you should have a website to support your business or create greater profits.
Now… I understand cost can be an issue for some. Until recently, a modern professional website could easily cost $3,000 – $5,000. I still work with agencies who won’t take a website project for under $50,000. But not everyone needs that level of depth or complexity.
There are several web products out there that will give you cheap (or even free) websites. They’re garbage. But they still get you some form of a website. It’s better than nothing.
