Amazon Retiring Product Ads, Offers New Text Ads As Alternative

Amazon-logoIf you’re an Advertiser who uses Amazon Product Ads, you’re in for a disappointing surprise.  Soon, you’ll have to figure out some other way to get your products in front of Amazon shoppers.

More than likely, this may not be the first time you’ve heard this news, as Amazon has already begun notifying advertisers that Product Ads will shut down on October 31.  But, don’t despair, at least not too badly.The company is gong to introduce a new ad option that they’re calling Amazon Text Ads, and emails that are being sent to advertisers that this is a possible alternative to the soon defunct Product Ads.

So why is Amazon shutting down Product Ads?  At this point, we don’t have any information on the matter.  This is the full text found in Amazon’s email.

35 percent of respondents in a recent ChannelAdvisor survey said that Amazon Product Ads and Sponsored Links were the best digital marketing channel when it came to offering the best ROI.

For those who don’t know, Product Ads would usually appear on Amazon product detail pages right under the heading “Products Ads from External Websites.”  Basically, the service allowed online retailers to advertise products and direct shoppers to their websites without selling directly on Amazon.

The links that are found at the bottom of Amazon’s email point to a Seller Central help page that offers more details.  Kirk Williams tweeted this screenshot of that help page today.
